Hockey WA High Performance is seeking expressions of interest for athletes seeking to be involved in this year’s Talent Accelerant Program.
Last year’s inaugural Talent Accelerant Program was a fantastic success and is already seen as a key landmark in Hockey WA’s High Performance pathway and a program that is being mirrored across the country by many other states.
ATHLETE SUCCESS: We’ve seen a huge amount of success from the athletes involved in the Talent Accelerant Program this year. Matthew Bird and Candyce Peacock are a couple of many success stories to come out of the program.
Matt BirdFremantle Hockey Club high flyer Matthew Bird has had a whirlwind last 12 months. After being involved in the Talent Accelerant Program over the 2014 off-season, his impressive form this year for Fremantle in the Melville Toyota League and for WA at the U18 and U21 National Championships has culminated in him being selected for Australia’s Youth Olympic Team.
He played a starring role for Australia at the Youth Olympic Games, who were successful in winning Gold. The defender will make his debut for the WA Thundersticks at this year’s AHL.
Candyce PeacockMoving up from the South West, Candyce Peacock was a part of the inaugural group involved in the Talent Accelerant Program. Having progressed through the various underage state teams, the 18 year old was a key member of the U21 Women’s state team this year.
Earlier this year, she travelled to Singapore on the WA Diamonds Development Tour and has continued as a WA Diamonds Squad member in preparation for this year’s AHL. Recently, she was awarded the D’Arcy Slater Foundation Sports Scholarship.
