Redbacks had a solid win against Kalamunda beating them 4 – 1
The Redbacks were keen to make amends for the loss against Kalamunda in the first half of the season, and with them sitting 5th just below the Redbacks the Redbacks need to show who the better side was.
With the return from injury of Clayton Phillips taking on the role of Captain, he had an immediate impact. The passing from the backline was hard and fast giving Kalamunda no chance to take possession of the ball and within minutes, the Redbacks had scored with Brad Thompson and Brody Capewell combining hard passes into the scoring circle where Brendan Phillip put it away.
The forward line of applied the press to Kalamunda defence denying them the opportunity to clear the ball from their defensive area. This set the tone of the game with a continual rotation of our wings Steve Snashall, Marc Foley, Jorden Barodean and Matt Hasson not allowing the pressure off.
A second goal was scored when Matt Hasson combined with Brandon Phillips, deflecting a driving shot inside the circle. Nearing the end of the half Kalamunda got a breakaway from there defensive area and drove into attack where they scored there first goal. With 3 minutes to go in the half, the Redbacks responded with Brody Capewell skilfully getting around the Kalamunda players and driving the ball into the circle where Hasson deflected his 2nd goal.
Second half Kalamunda came out hard and physical however, the Redbacks had the answer with Matt Martin winning a short corner early in the half that was converted by Brandon Phillips with a drag flick. This sealed the game with Kalamunda lucky not to concede further goals.
