The Redbacks Men’s 2’s won 8 – 2 against Cowan Uni.
The Redbacks started confidently attacking from the start of the game with strong play from the half backs, not allowing any attacks by Cowan, and continually sending the ball forward for the Redbacks. After an attacking move in the scoring circle, Glen Beaven put the first goal past Cowan’s Goalie. After another strong build up from the half backs, Jake Williams cut through the defence of Cowan with a superb pass to Glen, who received the ball on the base line driving it into the scoring circle. Jordan Barrodean’s quick reflexes put the ball in the top of the net scoring the second. A minute later, Brad Thompson ran the ball into the scoring circle passing to Jordan who gave Cowan Goalie no chance, getting the third goal. Just before the half ended Cowan had a number of attacks with Rick Goody Redbacks Goal keeper making consecutive great saves.
In the second half Brandon Phillips scored a hatrick with Goals at the 5min, 10min and 12 min mark, Steve Snachell chimed in with a nice finish from a great attacking move and Jordan returned the favour to Glen, passing the ball to the top of the scoring circle straight on to Glen’s stick where he turned the defender and drove the ball in to the net. Cowan ended the half with a couple of consolation goals. Coach Edny Van broak was particularly pleased with the all round effort of the whole team and our five U17 players Brody Capewell, Jake Williams, Brandon Phillips, Tom Leaver and Glen Beaven who every week take some of the strongest players from the opposition.
Next week we play Joondalup Lakers at Joondalup Arena who are sitting a position below the Redbacks.
