The Rockingham Redbacks Men’s 1s side played Joondalup Lakers on Saturday at the Lark Hill Sportsplex, and carried the dominance from the previous weeks win against North Coast Raiders into this game.
Lakers couldn’t suppress the Redbacks at any stage with the local side winning 4-nil.
The game started with both sides feeling each other out and having limited chances on goal, but this was broken after 13 minutes when Shaun Ford worked the ball down the left side and passed across goal resulting in a shot by Olly Bond and the defection picked up by Shaun after some hard running.
Olly back up this great work with a goal of his own 8 minutes later after a superb build up in the midfield.
At the break Rockingham were 2–nil up.
When play restarted it only took 7 minutes before Bryan Taylor scored the goal of the day. From a long corner Taylor received the ball on the top of the circle and drove the ball home with such pace that it gave the keeper no chance at all.
After this goal the game changed slightly with both side niggling at each other but the umpires control this very well with a player from each side spending time in the sin bin. Rockingham to their credit bounced backed and resumed their dominance, controlling the game to its conclusion.
Olly finished of the game with a second goal in the dying minutes from a rebound off the pads.
This win was a very satisfying for coach Michael Nobbs as the Redbacks were unable to beat Lakers last year.
Next week Rockingham has a bye and then travel to Busselton to play the South West Strikers the following week.
