The Rockingham Redbacks Mens Willow Bridge side put on another dominate display at Lark Hill on Saturday evening crushing Blades 5-1 in front of a large crowd.
Blades, who are just out the top four, were only able to hold the Redbacks out for the first 7 minutes. Brett Webb using his blistering pace and some great ball control weaved his way past several defenders from midfield to drive into the circle and finish with a fantastic goal.
This goal was followed up 6 minutes later when Bryan Taylor took the opportunity to take a free hit quickly inside the 25 and carried the ball into the circle where his effort was rewarded with the first penalty corner of the game. Hardev Singh is becoming Rockingham’s short corner specialist with this corner being no exception driving the ball into back of the goal.
At the half time break the Redbacks were only 2 nil up having had most of the play. In these situations which happens a lot in Hockey the opposition scores from limited chances but keeper Lachlan McDonald made some brilliant saves to make sure Blades didn’t convert any of the limited chances they had.
Blades, however, scored against the flow of play at the half way mark of the second half. Rockingham rebounded from this goal by placing increased pressure on the Blades defense. Combined with Webb (and some great passing and leading) Shaun Ford was able to take a sharp chance to put the ball in the back of the net. The Webb and Ford combination also resulted with another goal by Webb a few minutes later. Ford, not to be out done, scored his second and the teams fifth with 3 minutes remaining to really stamp the authority Rockingham had over Blades.
