After the disappointment of losing last week, despite playing the better Hockey, the J5/6 Redbacks, started with great purpose against Kalamunda. With several key players out it was an opportunity for some of the newer boys to shine and they all stepped up brilliantly.
Rocky were first to score after a fine attack on the right, started by Ben Tan, ended with Dylan converting a fine cross from Ethan. Rocky continued to apply great pressure and Felix and Tian at fullback ensured the Kala attack was limited. When Kala did break through Brandon made two fine saves. At the other end Rocky had several chances to extend their lead with Random, Ethan, Jimmy and Terri all going close.
In the second half, Rocky started sluggishly, and allowed Kala a quick break which they converted. Rocky then got back into the game, with probably their best move linking Random, Jimmy, Ethan down the right wing, for Harry to tap over at the far post, for his first metro goal.
Another breakaway attack and some tiredness saw Kala level again and we realised it was going to be a nail biting last 10 minutes. Oliver and Terri combined to create a short corner for Rocky, which Dylan duly converted from Random’s excellent pass.
By now Kala were throwing everything into the game, and the young Rocky team were tiring, although never giving up. With almost the last touch of the game Kala equalised, and the 3- 3 draw was (at least according to the spectators) a fair result – and that hockey was definitely the winner.
Reminder this week we are at home on Turf, and on the 7th we are Watching the Men’s First Team, 4.00pm at the club, more details from Simon or John.
