The Redbacks Men 2’s side won 2-0 against top-of-the-ladder Blades in an even encounter that saw both sides defend well and spring into attack with equal determination.
After settling in, the Redbacks won a short corner at the 15 minute mark, which was converted into a goal by Clayton Phillips.
The last 10 minutes of the half saw the Blades apply a lot of pressure, but the Redbacks defence held strong, with a number of crucial saves made by goalkeeper Rick Goody.
At half-time, coach Edny Vanden Broek continued his theme of the side maintaining their intensity through the second half.
And both sides appeared to to have got the same message, coming out strong in the second half with some excellent play to entertain the crowd.
But the Redbacks fitness started to show, allowing them a slight edge over the Blades across the field.
In the final minutes, the Blades again held the ball with strenght and attacked, trying to even the score.
But the Redbacks defence remaind strong and repelled each attack, applying the pressure back on the Blades with their own attacks.
This resulted in the Redbacks making it into the scoring circle, which allowed Jordan Barrodean to flick the ball with a reverse stick past the Blades’ goalie to seal the game.
