The Metro 11 boys continued their winning start to the season with a 3 – 1 win at Fremantle on Saturday.
This was a great team performance from all 13 players, who restricted Fremantle to just a few shots in either half. Max made his first start of the season and it was a first time for Samuel E at fullback, but both worked hard and made great tackles alongside the more experienced Tian and Felix.
Dylan opened the scoring with a fierce shot after some great build up play involving Simon, Jimmy and Terri on the left hand side of the pitch.
After the restart Rocky continued to press and had short corner after corner, but were not able to press home their advantage due to some dogged defence and fantastic saves by the young Freo goalkeeper. Shortly before half time Fremantle finally cracked under the pressure and Ethan was on hand to slot a rebound past the keeper for a deserved 2 – 0 halftime lead.
In the second half Freo showed great resolve and tried very hard to even up the score, with Brandon forced to make two excellent saves. The pressure finally told and Freo scored a deserved goal after 10 minutes. However this Rocky team were not to be beaten and they mounted wave after wave of attack, with only some wayward shooting and fine goalkeeping saving the scoreline.
With 5 minutes to goal, Jimmy and Ethan linked well to put Terri free at the top of the D, who beat the first defender and fired a hard shot past the Freo keeper to secure the game for Rocky.
Well done to all players and supporters. This weeks game is a top of the table clash and should prove a fantastic match.
