Normal service resumed this week after storms interrupted power supplies recently.
The Metro boys have learned a hard lesson in the last two games after losing both despite being the better side in each game.
A Bunbury hangover was probably to blame for the first half against WASPS, where the boys seemed barely able to stand up let alone run around. The half time result of 4 – 0 down was a much of a surprise to WASPS as it was to the vocal and supportive Redbacks spectators. In the second half it was a different story, WASPS were not able to mount a single attack, such was the dominance of the Rocky side. Sam MW, now for ever known as RANDOM, scored a brillant shortcorner goal following hard work from Dylan and Oliver, and Ethan (is it still $20 a goal dad) bagged two more. 3 other boys came close and a fair result should have been 7 – 4 such was the dominance, but unfortunately the scoreboard will only record the (4-3) loss.
This week, the boys started sharply, as if their memories of last weeks game was still fresh, the team welcomed back Jimmy and Harry, and Jimmy in particular took to his inner role with relish, setting Ethan, Dylan and Slade all with great chances. The other midfielders Random and Liam, made sure Rocky had complete control of the game, with SamE and Oliver looking very comfortable at the back. The team also welcomed Ben Tan in goal for the first time at metro, and he pulled off two great saves on the only occasions Melville broke through.
However, despite all the pressure and numerous short corners the result was 0 – 0 at halftime.
As with last week this was a game of two halves, and unfortunately Rocky’s lack of goals was made to pay in the second half, despite some brave defending from Felix, Wian and Brandon in goal. Rocky continued to mount attack after attack but 3 breakaway attacks from Melville sealed the result.
Hopefully the lessons learned will be more important than the results and the boys will go to next weeks game in Kalamunda and put it all together.
